What would be your preferred way of bringing it back?
Personally, I’d hate for Oppo to become just a Facebook group. I hate Facebook, and I’d rather not have to shitpost under my real name either. :P
Reddit is better, but still lacks the “intimacy” of a separate platform.

We should all become pen friends and write letters to each other.

But why? Don’t you like 12 year olds circlejerking over the GT-R and unironically using trollfaces and memegenerator memes? Are you even human?

I would call the Royal Mail and register any mail from your address as spam.

A PHP-style bulletin board would be amazing. This place has so much info and is so hard to navigate. That or chain letters via snail mail. That's about how well Kinja works anyway.

I’m more worried about all the images I’ve hotlinked from here.

I loved those old PHPBB based forums, but I haven’t been part of one for ages now and I’m wondering if it’s not just nostalgia googles talking. Still, given the choice I’d go with something like that.

If Oppo gets shut down due to using too much bandwidth, I’m blaming you!
![]() 08/08/2016 at 17:33 |

I say “don’t mess with perfection” — those were the result of 30 years of the best geeks in the business putting their heads together, long before the short-attention-span facebook, myspace, etc took over. I love Oppo, but I won't join facebook for Oppo.
![]() 08/08/2016 at 17:34 |

I voted for blog form, but that or forum would be cool. I got love for y’all, but I’m not joining Facebook. I’m registered on Reddit, but I never check it unless it’s for Calzone’s Behind the Burner thing. The format sucks and reddit is just... reddity.

Damn, I forgot to include AOL Channel as an option. :/

Fuuuuuuck Facebook.
I’m already on Reddit, so I’m OK with that.

I’d probably leave.

It’s sad actually that as it is the Facebook group is the most likely place we’ll fall back to. It’s probably the very worst way for Oppo to be hosted, maybe apart from screaming posts through our windows.
![]() 08/08/2016 at 17:50 |

No idea what sort of monthly bandwidth Oppo sees but I have server space & have run forums before (I’ve mentioned this before) if it comes down to it.

Forum would be easiest to navigate.

(showing my age) Wordpress? Is there a better platform that doesn’t cost anything/much?
![]() 08/08/2016 at 18:15 |

I think Facebook would work fine to get the word out of a new home, should the plug get pulled unexpectedly, but I agree that a Facebook only group it would not be good.
Don’t like/do reddit.
Unfortunately I can’t seem to get to the poll from work so I don’t know what the options are. That said, I think a forum format would work best. I’ve got tons of experience administering a few ProBoards boards from back when I used to play computer games. The only problem with the forums is the bumping of long-dead posts. That’s what’s great about this place is that it’s always fresh content.

Honestly if there’s a way to get us all registered into one collaborative Wordpress Oppo thing, I’m all for it. It’d work just like Kinja, except it would work.
![]() 08/08/2016 at 18:54 |

Because the Kinja blog exists, all the traffic is here. If this palce goes down there would be much more traffic on the sub.

Gawker sold a while back, and apparently the new folks are coming on property next week.

To be fair, that’s Oppositelock in a nutshell too.
![]() 08/08/2016 at 21:49 |

Ah, on one hand why would you alienate the core audience of your new acquisition by shutting down an asset that has minimal costs. On the other hand it's the Internet. I'd say add in some as content and take advantage of the eyeballs.
![]() 08/08/2016 at 22:03 |

Agreed - I recall hearing a while back that Oppo’s viewership was quite high.
Free content that draws viewers is generally seen as a good thing, but who knows.

Let’s just say if it’s Facebook, I won’t be there. I know many of you will be saddened.
![]() 08/09/2016 at 01:15 |

Nah, what we need is Kinja, but not Kinja. Basically it works almost like Kinja, but has Flickr’s notes (which are back, BTW) and all the cool shit that come with the current Kinja updates.
Also, I have to amp my coding game.
![]() 08/09/2016 at 21:50 |

Is there any reason it couldn't stay on Kinja?
![]() 08/09/2016 at 21:57 |

We’re just making plans in case the new owner decides Oppo is a liability and not worth keeping around.
![]() 08/09/2016 at 22:12 |

Oh, yeah, I understand that part. I was just wondering if it could continue to be hosted on Kinja.
